jessiphia:

but Im pretty sure this entire fandom is batshit insane when it comes to fanart

‘shes not that skinny!’

‘shes too fat!’

‘you drew her too muscular!’

‘why doesnt she look ethnic enough?’

‘shes not dark enough!’

‘shes too light!’

‘why are her eyes that color blue?’

‘HER HAIR IS NOT LIKE THAT OMG YOU ARE THE WORST’

I agree. As much as I understand that people don’t want the characters to be bleached or anything, they’re being waaaay to critical. People are just drawing the fan art they want to.

Cartoons aren’t supposed to look like reality. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. To say that you’re being influenced by the structure of the body of a cartoon is ridiculous. “Oh the body is so unrealistic! It makes me feel bad about my body ooooOOoO”

That’s just such bullshit. I mean… these are styles of art. You’re not going to accuse the powerpuff girls of being bad and unrealistic because the girls have giant heads… are you? The same goes to characters in the Adventure Time style, the boobilicious anime style, and many others.

One of my favorite parts of fan art is to look at a version of a character that I’ve never seen before, and truly appreciate it.

I mean, I really appreciate that Korra is brown. The different skin colors of the ATLA universe are amazing and I’m so happy they’re there. But if someone doesn’t draw Korra’s nose “ethnic” enough or if someone’s shading of her skin is just a teensy bit too light, that doesn’t mean they want to discredit her skin tone.

Just because someone draws Korra with a skinny waist and large hips and with a different shade of blue for the color of her eyes doesn’t mean you have to pounce on them and publicly denounce them in the fandom. That makes people afraid to even try, like the OP.

Sorry about the rant. It just has been bottling up inside me for awhile.
